Vertigo

Vertigo is a hallucination of movement. It’s the sensation that you, or the environment around you, is moving or spinning.

The main causes of vertigo which are related to the inner ears are Acute labrynthitis, Vestibular Neuronitis, Meniere’s disease & Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo [BPPV].

Management of vertigo and imbalance mainly lies in a clear and good history taking. Mr. Dhanasekar will ask quite a lot of questions and then do a thorough ENT and balance examination. He will also do a test to see if the condition is positional vertigo. If the test is positive he will then do a manoeuvre which will settle the symptoms of positional vertigo.

It is very important to know that not all dizziness is related to the ears. Mr. Dhanasekar will exclude the ear causes for vertigo and if the imbalance is not ear related he would do the appropriate referral to other specialists.
