Children can often put objects into their noses out of curiosity. These need to be removed as it can cause local infection or rarely they can be inhaled into the lungs. A child with foul smelling discharge from only one nostril needs to be seen by an ENT specialist to rule out a foreign body in the nose.
Batteries need to be removed as an emergency. They can cause serious damage due to the leakage of the highly corrosive alkali. These chemicals can cause a severe burn damaging skin, soft tissues, cartilage and bone leading to scarring very quickly.
Mr. Dhanasekar can remove these foreign bodies in the clinic rooms with direct vision and specialised instruments. Rarely the child, if not co-operative in clinic would need a short general anaesthetic to remove a foreign body.
